Music Technology 5 introduces students to the Max/MSP/Jitter graphical programming environment.

Assignment one:
MIDI control patch (30%)
Each student must submit a patch demonstrating an aspect of the generation or processing of MIDI control data in Max. Patch should be accompanied by a brief technical report (c. 200 words).

Assignment two:
Final project: performance/installation patch (70%)
Each student must submit a patch which demonstrates familiarity with both the control data and audio processing/generating capabilities of Max 5. This patch should be suitable for use in a performance or
installation context, and should be accompanied by a brief technical report detailing the construction and other technical considerations. Patch should be accompanied by a technical report of at least c. 400 words.

Assignment 1: Project prototype
Deadline: to be submitted to Faculty office, ground floor of Foyle Arts Building by 12 noon on Tuesday 3rd November

Students must produce a draft composition (length is not a consideration at this stage) featuring at least 3 or 4 different musical sections or melodic, chordal or rhythmic ideas/gestures.

Assignment 2a: Finale project submission
Deadline: to be submitted to Faculty office, ground floor of Foyle Arts Building by 12 noon on Tuesday 8th December

Students must produce a 3-minute music composition of suitable complexity. Students must work individually. An arrangement is acceptable, however, we strongly encourage students to use this opportunity to explore new sound worlds/music genres and their own composition ability.

Assignment 2b: Finale project presentation
Presentations take place in Week 12 - exact presentation schedule to be confirmed closer to time

In conjunction with the final project submission, each student/group will be required to make a short presentation (~ 5 mins) to their peers in which they discuss their composition and production process, the decisions made and overall evaluation.
