BA in Creative Technologies

Welcome to the BA in Creative Technologies at the University of Ulster’s School of Creative Arts. This page will tell you a little about what you can expect if you decide to study here.

The BA in Creative Technologies is a new degree which combines industry-relevant digital content creation with an innovative engagement with contemporary creative arts practice and creative industries policy. The scope of this course means that you will work on projects which span traditional boundaries, leading you to develop creative and technical skills which will equip you for work in a rapidly changing media landscape.

You will develop key skills in audio/music, image, interaction design, web-based media and other computing technologies. You will also be exposed to cutting-edge creative practice, some of it work which radically redefines our relationship with technology. The School is a building housing other creative types—musicians, dancers, actors, directors, dramatists, designers—and the strong sense of community means that you will have many opportunities to collaborate with and learn from each other. Frequently, these collaborations will continue after you have graduated.

With this combination of an exposure to a variety of creative fields, a range of technical skills and an understanding of place of creative technologies in the wider digital economy, you will be extremely well-placed to compete successfully in the changing employment market.

The course is mainly taught through small lab-based classes, so you will benefit from personal attention from your lecturers and tutors. Our labs will be open from early in the morning to late in the evening—since your work will be the subject of presentation from an early stage in your course, you will have to spend a lot of time here to properly realise your creative ideas. However, when you have some outstanding creative projects to call your own, the long hours will have been worth it.
